Strategic Vision

Imerys is committed to creating a positive legacy and is preparing a regeneration strategy for the china clay area.

The vision is to create a sustainable community that builds on the strengths of the china clay area to ensure a more prosperous and sustainable future.

Land in context

  • Imerys owns about 4,000 hectares of land in the china clay area.
  • In excess of 700 hectares is surplus to operational requirements
  • About 250 hectares of this surplus land comprises the six framework master plan sites shown in this exhibition.

Improving the A391

Strengthening the transport links between the A30 and St Austell is a key feature of our vision for the area. Along with other stakeholders we will investigate how the A391 could be improved. This could mean opening up a new route through Imerys land and creating a new strategic connection between existing communities and the proposed developments at Baal, West Carclaze and Goonbarrow.

Concept

The development proposals are principally located at six sites, although the positive impacts of regeneration will be felt across the china clay area. Features of the proposals that have the potential to benefit the wider community are:

  • distinct identity with good links to jobs, transport and services
  • new homes, designed to meet high standards of sustainability, environmental and design quality, including affordable and a mix of housing types
  • high sustainable / zero carbon standards
  • green infrastructure networks which preserve and promote biodiversity
  • range of community facilities including education, health, retail, business and leisure facilities
